Asia; Golden barbs are found in the waterways of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Males will have a more pronounced vertical stripe on their bodies.
A small breeding tank is all that is required for breeding Golden barbs. They will scatter their eggs around the substrate but the parents need to be removed after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs. When the fry are free swimming, they can be fed on Infusoria.
The expected life span of Puntius gelius is 2-3 years.
It is best to keep Puntius gelius in small groups of at least 5 fish. They are a peaceful species and can be kept in a community tank.
