Origin
Asia; Goldenbanded gobies are found in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
Sexing
There are no visible differences between the sexes.
Breeding
Adding freshwater to the tank will often induce spawning. The female will lay her eggs in the substrate, normally in front of a rock and the male will then take on the parenting role. The eggs will hatch after 2-3 days and a few days later the fry will be free swimming, at this stage they will accept newly hatched brine shrimp as their first food.
Lifespan
The expected life span for Brachygobius doriae is 5-8 years.
Short description
Often sold as a freshwater fish they are in fact an estuarine fish that does best in a brackish set up. Add rocks to create hiding places and due to its semi-aggressive temperament, it is best to keep Goldenbanded gobies in a species tank.
