Food and feeding

Sixbar distichodus is classed as a fussy eater and if you try to feed it commercial foods it will refuse them first off, if you are persistent they may start to accept pellet food. They do well on a diet of shrimp and chopped earth worms but try to include some vegetable matter to keep the diet balanced.

Origin

Africa; Sixbar distichodus are found in Lake Tanganyika.

Sexing

There are no visible differences between the sexes.

Breeding

Due to the large size of the mature fish it is not practicable to attempt to breed these in the aquarium.

Lifespan

It is believed that the life span for Distichodus sexfasciatus is 10 years.

Short description

Distichodus sexfasciatus grow very large so be prepared to upgrade your tank to a larger one as the fish matures. They require very high water quality with regular water changes and excellent filtration as they do produce a lot of waste.
